Rock Crusher Bluegrass festival

Image
We went to see the Bluegrass Festival at the Rock Crusher hanger like pavilion. https://www.rockcrusherevents.com/  It was a great show.  I was a bit tired, so I dozed off a coupled times, but I heard and saw most of it.  My favorite group was the last group we saw. Backwater Bluegrass.  \ Here they are a few years ago with a woman on the base. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=backwater+bluegrass&view=detail&mid=4A2D084AC95B4F07F9504A2D084AC95B4F07F950&FORM=VIRE Yesterday they had a young man on the base.  However, I liked the singing of the old fellow on the mandolin who had been there for decades.  He had an interesting history as well, having played piano years ago for some Snoppy musical shows. The band of mandolin, bass, guitar and banjo had a fine sound.  This was a more polished group than the others. Also performing was this grand group of little girl cloggers https://www.rockcrusherevents.com/ They put on a long and wonderful show, all dressed in ou

Dunnellon

We wandered up to Dunnellon to look over boat rentals.  We are set to be here next year, and perhaps I'll try renting a boat and fishing again along the Withlacoochie. The fellow in the store said that bluegills bite well and easily.  He uses chicken gizzards. At the https://www.facebook.com/AnglersResortDunnellon/ Anglers Resort.  We looked around.  They have  high prices for pontoons, but not to bad for fishing boats with motors.   Perhaps next year I'll try a license again. Elizabeth can go with me as long as she does not fish.  There are some big fish in this river, but I'd be most interested in bluegills and crappie and filling my freezer. They also have a fast and furious airboat ride that perhaps some of our future guests would like. We ate at the Blue Gator and got some the best wings we have had in a while as well as a pretty good deal on redfish with homemade potato chips.  What I liked was the wings could be ordered individually with the minimum bei

Cross Creek/The Rawlings House/The Yearling Restaurant

VISIT TO CROSS CREEK https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjorie_Kinnan_Rawlings We went up to Cross Creek on Saturday and toured the home and surrounding grounds of Majorie Rawlins, the author of "The Yearling" and many other books associated with the Cross Creek area. https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Marjorie-Kinnan-Rawlings It was a fine visit.  We arrived just after the last morning tour, so we went to lunch and came back. Often the contents of such houses are not filled with original furniture and such, but this one had almost all original furnishings and it was clear that the staff worked hard to keep things as they were when Marjorie lived there. http://floridatraveler.com/marjorie-rawlings-cross-creek/ Marjorie found the place when she was married to her first husband, another writer, Charles.  They lived in Rochester, NY, but once she saw this place, she knew where she wanted to live.  The plan was to let the citrus groves support them so that they co

A couple musical events

THE CURRYS  at the Courthouse. http://thecurrysmusic.com/ They were very entertaining.  It turns our one of the band is the cousin of Ana, Cory's old girlfriend.  Elizabeth remembered that Ana gave us his music before he hooked up with his cousin. The three guitars were just grand.  One fellow had the voice of a young Paul Simon and they did sing, "Sound of Silence."  However, most of their songs were bits they had written. The weakest part of the music is that the lyrics were often difficult to understand.  Too bad.  I thought the writing was very good. However, there are all new songs to the entire audience.  They have to be enunciated clearly. Part of this I blame on this need for rock groups to have these strange accents that are sort of Southern or Western.  If the performers would just sing in their own voices, we could understand the lyrics and better like the song.  But that is just the way it is.  Everyone had to have a twang or a whine. However, I e
