FISH AND DRIVEWAY PARTY AND BONNIE'S BIRTHDAY

 I  did not sleep well last night in spite of melatonin.  I made it up with a couple naps, but one was full of bad dreams.  Anxiety about my future gambling travels.

We went to Shelly's and bought a ton of seafood:  shrimp, oysters shucked, sheepshead fillets, a grand salmon piece, 

It was both grand and a little sad to see the river and remember our pontoon days.  Pelicans passed by.  Shelly's was crowded and some did not have masks.

We had the salmon for supper with a pasta dish Elizabeth concocted of Michelle's newest noodle find, peas, mushrooms, and some tomato sauce.  It was really grand.

We stopped to get Elizabeth's part for the car, found it was on recall and would be free.  We have an appointment to get it done next week.  Good news.

At four we met at Mike and Michelle's for a driveway party which was fun, but not as delightful as some other gatherings.  There were some new people there.  Stan and Rita were there.  Dick talked a long while with Ernie. 

After supper we went on zoom with Bonnie for her birthday.  She was at Nancy's.  We were supposed to wait to eat supper, but we had finished.  Then we all watched a series of little plays on line.  They were good, and they were disturbing as well.  We did not finish all ten.  We'll watch them tomorrow.

Frank called and we had a good chat.  Sylvia is to return to actual school.  She has mixed feelings, but seems to be fine with it.  Frank and Julie are relieved to have the burden of home schooling lifted.

Ed is going visit Frank this summer. That will be grand.

In the morning Frank knocked his guitar into hot coffee in the French Press and posted a funny post that got a good bit of attention.

All in all it was a fine day, with more to come.  

I think I have reached the end of my planning for the trip to Denver and Vegas.  Today I sent some chorizo to Katie for me to take to the casinos.

At home there was a siting of a moose on Snake Hill Road yesterday. Pretty cool.

I drank the first can of Athletic Brewery Chocolate Cherry stout and it was very tasty.  So far I like the lighter stouts more than "All Out".  One more to try.

Mary and Ruth stayed the night and we had a grand time catching up on stories.  We still all talk too much about illness, but that is just what we do as old people. Here we are at the best restaurant in the world, Van der Vaulk out on the patio area. Seemed odd without Chuck.  Perhaps next year he will be down here. We all had some of the seafood special. The women all had salmon.   I had flounder stuffed with crab, a bit off diet, especially for the French fries which I managed to get extra crispy.  No house chips available.  The French onion soup was good. We had a great waitress, dark haired, friendly and cute.  Melly, the owners daughter was there as well. She is always so friendly with us. As we ate, the sunset.  It was not dramatic color, but fine ambiance just the same.  Along side us were about a dozen Netherlands folk speaking their language.  As the sunset the old lamps came on and they started up some of the firepits.  I do like this place. BROOKSVILLE ART SHOW AND CHILI

While Elizabeth had an appointment, I had a nice meal here; I went to Natalia's   http://www.nataliaspizza.com/ where there is a lot of food other than pasta and pizza.  I ate some oxtail with yucca and a salad and washed it down with a double expresso. Susan took us on a tour of the art displayed in the City Hall, including her own framed poem in the poetry section.  It was a mixed showing, with some things incredibly stunning and others rather poor.  We had a great time. Here is Susan with her framed poem.  It was not a poem I could understand because I lack all the background in the work and thinking of the famous psychologists mentioned, but Elizabeth could follow each nuance.  A fine poem with meanings well below the surface. Here is a sample of what I liked: This woman worked in what is called acrylics and used a technique of putting the color over an oil that spread it around and shaped it.  I don't much like abstract, but I like this.

TRIP TO ST SIMON'S ISLAND IN GEORGIA

We started our trip to St Simon's Island, Georgia to  celebrate our first date, 30 years ago.   However, we planned the trip before we remembered the anniversary.   We are old now, and that is the way the old function. It did not matter.  We enjoyed celebrating our first date.  It was a grand place to visit for a few days. DAY ONE  We got on the road in good time.  So much easier to pack a car than pack for an airplane. We skipped I-95 and added a few minutes to the trip by going back roads.  Well worth the longer trip.  Sometimes the road cut through dense forest.  Sometimes farms showed up with beef cattle.  Most were Black Angus, but one field was scattered with an assortment of colors and included some calves. There was no traffic and the surroundings were more accessible from these two lane roads than they ever seem from an expressway. We seemed to have plenty to talk about.
