Gainesville art museum

 We stopped for a night in Gainesville and visited the Art Museum on the campus there.

It was a grand experience.  The art was ecclectic and all around us were young college students, some dressed up for the fashion show that was to happen later that night.  

The museum is always free.  This night even the $4 parking was free.












I enjoyed the jutxtaposed attitude in people, the contrast between those selling fish and the rich, well dressed looking on the sales.




This really reminded me of scenes of my childhood.  It all was more vivid than the camera catches.

There was an entire room dedicated to Budhist themed works.  Some of it did not appeal much to me, but this one was grand.






I am not much for abstract sculpture, but this seemed very different.  The crab and and musical score were all very well constructed.





We thought Cory would like this one with all the bicycles.

Mary and Ruth stayed the night and we had a grand time catching up on stories.  We still all talk too much about illness, but that is just what we do as old people. Here we are at the best restaurant in the world, Van der Vaulk out on the patio area. Seemed odd without Chuck.  Perhaps next year he will be down here. We all had some of the seafood special. The women all had salmon.   I had flounder stuffed with crab, a bit off diet, especially for the French fries which I managed to get extra crispy.  No house chips available.  The French onion soup was good. We had a great waitress, dark haired, friendly and cute.  Melly, the owners daughter was there as well. She is always so friendly with us. As we ate, the sunset.  It was not dramatic color, but fine ambiance just the same.  Along side us were about a dozen Netherlands folk speaking their language.  As the sunset the old lamps came on and they started up some of the firepits.  I do like this place. BROOKSVILLE ART SHOW AND CHILI

While Elizabeth had an appointment, I had a nice meal here; I went to Natalia's   http://www.nataliaspizza.com/ where there is a lot of food other than pasta and pizza.  I ate some oxtail with yucca and a salad and washed it down with a double expresso. Susan took us on a tour of the art displayed in the City Hall, including her own framed poem in the poetry section.  It was a mixed showing, with some things incredibly stunning and others rather poor.  We had a great time. Here is Susan with her framed poem.  It was not a poem I could understand because I lack all the background in the work and thinking of the famous psychologists mentioned, but Elizabeth could follow each nuance.  A fine poem with meanings well below the surface. Here is a sample of what I liked: This woman worked in what is called acrylics and used a technique of putting the color over an oil that spread it around and shaped it.  I don't much like abstract, but I like this.

ST PETERSBURG WITH FRIENDS

Elizabeth and I arrived in St. Pete's at our 3 night rental. Cute place. All themed with a Key West theme. Our place is in the Conch Key section and out room is the Hemingway celebrating the author and his cats. Three grand Hemingway books have been left out, so I'll have plenty of reading. None of the three is familiar to me. I ended up buying the Mary Dearborn biography on line from Amazon. The rooms are small, but perfectly neat and clean and just what we needed for a short stay. There were two and a third flights of stairs to come up, so the carrying of luggage was a bit of a chore, but my latest PT work along with daily excercises has improved my lower body strength and I did not find them difficult at all. Also the stairs were only half steps and each step gave full foot access to the 2 by 6. Good railings too with little spires to hold on to at the corners. Rainy day the first day. And cool. It was cool the entire trip. No beach swimming this year. I'm drink
